Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

First of all, I just have to say my Grandma makes the BEST cinnamon rolls! I decided to try my luck and attempt making cinnamon rolls from scratch, this was a new adventure for me!

The recipe I used was absolutely delicious! Believe it or not, I made the icing from scratch as well. I'm adulting little by little!

You should refrigerate the dough overnight.

Ingredients for the Dough and filling:

  • 1 tbs Dry Yeast

  • 1 C Milk

  • 1⁄3 C Sugar

  • 1⁄2 C Butter

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 2 Eggs

  • 4 C Flour

  • 1⁄4 C Butter

  • 1 C Brown Sugar

  • 3 tbs Cinnamon

Ingredients for Icing:

  • 1⁄2 C Butter

  • 1 1⁄2 C Powered Sugar

  • 1 oz Cream Cheese

  • 2 tbs Heavy Whipping Cream

  • 1 tsp Vanilla

  • pinch Salt

Directions:

  1. Dissolve 1 tbs of Yeast in 1 cup of warm Milk

  2. Add the 1/3 cup Sugar, 1/2 cup Butter, 1 tsp Salt, 2 Eggs, and 4 cup Flour. Mix well. The dough will be sticky.

  3. Cover the bowl with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.

  4. Put the dough onto a floured surface. Don’t handle too much as it will become tough.

  5. Roll out dough to 1/4in thick rectangle.

  6. Spread the 1/4 cup butter evenly on dough.

  7. Mix 1 cup Brown Sugar and 3 tbs of Cinnamon in small bowl. Then sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over dough.

  8. Roll the dough up lengthwise.

  9. Slice into 14 slices and place in two greased circular pan.(depending how thick you'd like to slice the roll, you can use different pans)

  10. Refrigerate the dough overnight.

  11. Take out an hour before baking to allow the cinnamon rolls to rise again.

  12. Add icing ingredients into small bowl. Add 1/2 cup Butter, 1 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar, 2 tbs of Heavy Whipping Cream, 1 tsp Vanilla, pinch of Salt, and 1 oz of Cream cheese (you can use tbs of Milk instead of Cream Cheese if wanted). Beat until fluffy. Can be made the night before and left on the counter while baking.

  13. Spread icing over rolls when hot out of the oven.

I can't wait to try this recipe again. It can only get better from here! Someday mine will taste as good as grandmas! But these were close! Yummy!
